The monumental Exposition Coloniale took place in Bois de Vincennes near Paris in 1931. A passionate art connoisseur, Jean Besnard participated in the Metropolitan France section, for which he created a series of ceramics inspired by the Primitive Arts, which he liked to collect. The elephant theme was amongst his favorite and our vase is a beautiful example of it.
