This piece is a testament to Jacques Adnet’s tremendous talent. Similar to his contemporaries Pierre Chareau and Robert Mallet-Stevens, the artist combines metal (which became increasingly popular around 1929) with the sophistication of shagreen (a material also appreciated by Jean- Michel Frank and Andre Groult). The application was executed by Katsu Hamanaka using an ancient Japanese "Samenuri" technique, which consists of filling in the spaces between the natural grain of fish skin with a special coating.
