In 1934 Marc du Plantier met the wealthy industrialist Jean Bignon who commissioned the young designer to remodel his Haussmann-style apartment next to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The project’s substantial budget allowed du Plantier to express himself without restraints. The original architecture of the apartment served as a beautiful frame for his incredibly refined and elegant furniture. The overall feeling was a mix of antiquity - which has always been the artist’s passion - and modern minimalist esthetic. The salon, with its ivory lacquer columns on a Pompeian style terracotta background, housed a series of du Plantier’s iconic pieces such as marble standing lamps and an Egyptian daybed. In front of the majestic Roman marble fireplace, on a plush ivory fur stood our exquisite table. Its pure lines appear softer due to the beautiful gilding, while the glass top lightens the piece. Marc du Plantier created the coffee table exclusively for Jean Bignon, making it exceptional not only in terms of quality but also as a one-of-a-kind piece.
