Born in the Czech Republic, Libor David began his career as a sculptor very early and soon started to receive public commissions from his region, Moravia. Together with his brother he fled communist Czechoslovakia for Paris in 1968. There he quickly became part of the artistic circles of the day, befriending artists like Niki de Saint Phalle and Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, with whom he collaborated for many years. Known for his highly skilled marble, stone and metal work, Libor's surrealist Art Deco inspired objects gained him a solid following including former French President François Mitterrand and the City of Paris itself which commissioned several public sculptures.
