Marc du Plantier arrived in Madrid at the end of 1939, and soon integrated himself into Spanish high society. This allowed him to work on numerous important decorating ventures. Among his most prominent projects was the sumptuous interior that he created for the Marquise de Morbecq, Countess de Elda’s sister. Du Plantier chose to reinterpret his iconic works dating from the early 1930’s, integrating them into a neo-classical décor. The entrance hall (where our group of sconces were placed) was decorated in a contrasting modernist style, inspired by his “Bignon” interior of 1934. Our single-arm variation is homage to the double-arm sconces that graced the hallway of that famous interior.
